NextEra wants to buy Dominion Energy for $67 billion, and the State Corporation Commission will decide whether the deal goes through. On Tuesday, Nov. 17, the SCC begins its evidentiary hearing on the deal. This is one last chance to stand up to NextEra.
Residents across Virginia are raising concerns about what this deal could mean for:
Electric bills for families already struggling with rising costs
Accountability if a Florida corporation takes control of Virginia's largest electric utility
Data centers, and whether families will be stuck paying for the power plants and power lines built to serve Big Tech
Local communities and landowners affected by new power plants, transmission lines, pipelines, and other energy infrastructure
Clean energy and Virginia’s ability to build an affordable, reliable energy system that answers to Virginians
Corporate influence and transparency as regulators consider a deal that could shape Virginia's energy future for decades
